There are so many healthier ways to use up that leftover turkey but I think this is also one of the most tastiest. Rather than making a turkey pasta or laboring over a turkey soup, try this dish that literally comes together in 15 minutes. This is inspired by the Sichuan dish called mouthwatering chicken (口水鸡). Takes just a few ingredients, but the most functional ones to not skimp on are the cinnamon and star anise. Here’s how to make it!
Ingredients:
Leftover turkey meat, shredded into bite size pieces
1 tbsp red chili pepper flakes (prefer using gochugaru)
1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
1 tbsp nuts (peanuts or almonds)
2 thai red chili peppers thinly sliced
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 stalks of scallions
1 cinnamon stick
1 star anise pod
5 cloves of garlic diced
1 tsp sugar
1 tbsp vinegar
1 tbsp soy sauce
Salt to taste
A few leaves of cilantro for garnish
Instructions:
Start by shredding your leftover turkey meat into bite sized pieces
To a heat proof bowl, add in the chili flakes, sesame seeds, nuts, and Thai chili pepper
In a wok, heat up the 1/4 cup veggie oil with the scallions, garlic, cinnamon, and star anise
Once the garlic has turned a golden brown and the scallions are nicely singed, remove the scallions, cinnamon, and star anise
Pour the hot oil over the dried ingredients in the bowl, then add in the sugar, vinegar, soy sauce, and salt to taste
Add the turkey meat to a plate, then garnish with cilantro leaves
Pour the sauce mixture over the turkey and enjoy
