If your period cramps get way worse in the winter, it’s most likely due to Qi stagnation AKA poor circulation. This tends to happen if you’re drinking a lot of cold drinks throughout the year, or not ingesting enough “warming” foods, like ginger. This medicinal milk tea dessert with Chinese glutinous rice balls (tang yuan 汤圆)is the perfect thing for you this winter. Here’s how to make it (ps I’ve also linked where I get these ingredients on my Amazon page)

Ingredients (7)

Instructions

  1. Add the black sugar (1 block), red dates (6–7), ginger (4–5 slices), and red tea (2 Tbsp) to a saucepan and place over medium high heat

  2. Toast until the sugar starts to melt and caramelize, then deglaze with the water (2 Tbsp)

  3. Once water has mostly evaporated, turn heat down to medium low, then add in oat milk (1 cup)

  4. Let the milk simmer for 5 min and in the meantime, cook the tang yuan Chinese glutinous rice balls (5) according to package instructions

  5. Strain the tea, and pour the milk tea into a bowl with the finished tang yuan

  6. Add a few pieces of the red date to enjoy with the tang yuan
